“Screen music” – Luca Collivasone
Screen Music is a collection in four volumes containing a selection of compositions by Luca Collivasone entirely performed on the cacophonator in a time span ranging from 2020 to 2024.
Each volume of the collection is different from the others, the sound material contained is made up of compositions expressly made for cinema, theater and video game entertainment; some of these compositions have found their final placement while others have suffered a less happy fate and are archived together with the first in these volumes.
Each volume contains sound material different from the others, it goes from compositions in which the rhythm has its prevalent importance to others in which the sound material and the matter in its physicality are appreciated, sound design compositions in which the music is less intrusive and appears as a variegated background carpet constitute the content of a dedicated album of theirs To then arrive at long compositions in which the classical form is subverted in favor of a sort of abstract expressionism. The creative process makes sacrifice the essential moment, “The method of creating music is the usual one that I use with the cacophonator, I perform very long improvisation sessions and then I listen to the material deciding whether to keep or throw away. I don’t go back on my works by rearranging them or doing post-production editing, simply if I like something I keep it as it is by only making changes to the duration, the final recipient will decide which moments to use for his cinematographic production. Sacrifice as such, understood in the sense of accepting to sacrifice interesting but incoherent moments and therefore throwing them away, leads me to the condition of abandonment, of letting everything happen, of not foreseeing or building the composition a priori, it is a risky but sincere approach and in this situation I free all my creative potential and that of my cacophonator”.
